Web browsers
My website is written to be compliant with web standards, meaning that it should appear the same way in any browser which supports these standards. Unfortunately, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, which commands the majority of the web browser market share, has a long history of poor support for web standards (and has been at the center of anti-trust lawsuits in the U.S. and E.U.). This lack of adherence to standards forces website designers to make specific concessions or modifications to their site based on largely undocumented rules if they want it to display properly in Internet Explorer.
I have neither the time nor the interest in making my site fully compatible with a piece of software which refuses to adhere to the same standards everyone else does. Therefore, I strongly suggest using one of the many standards-compliant web browsers freely available. This includes Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, and several others. Below are several screen shots (courtesy of Browsershots.org) which show how various standards-compliant browsers render my site compared with Internet Explorer.
- Firefox 3.0 on Windows 2000
- Chrome 0.2 on Windows XP
- Safari 3.11 on Mac OS X
- Opera 9.52 on Ubuntu Linux
- Internet Explorer 6 incorrectly rendering the page
- Internet Explorer 7 correctly rendering the page
